12 days of gifting

Throughout December 2023, as part of the festive season, we celebrated some of the incredible clients we've collaborated with over the years. Combining our passion for packaging, products, and merch, we curated 12 days of gifts, unveiling and unboxing each advent calendar box over the course of December. Each box we meticulously crafted using premium Colourplan paper from Ball & Doggett.

These twelve boxes boasted diverse 3D shapes and sizes, structurally designed to seamlessly fit together, forming one grand gift cube. We aimed to curate a fun unboxing experience, as an appreciation of our clients and a celebration for one lucky follower to win all the gifts within.

Featuring gifts from our clients Meatsmith, Tsu-Lange-Yor, Hectors Deli, The Everleigh Bottling co, 1800 Lasagne, Four Pillars Gin, Sense of Self, Lucy Folk and more.

The STRUCTURE

The process started trying to make 12 boxes nest into each other. This was designed in 3D as a basis point for the products. A project in reverse, the products within were fitted into the box after the final dielines were adjusted and developed.

We hand-crafted a prototype of the external box based on a shadow box design, to continue prototyping the fit of all the inner boxes.

Fuelled by our love of colour, we choose to use the colour range of Colorplan to make each box unique.

Blending both digital and physical mockups, we were able to play with the colour and shape configurations.

The design

Once the box designs were finalised, we moved on to the design. We collaborated with Studio Wilson on this part of the project.

Working within the parameters of printing and hand crafting the boxes in our studio, this defined the design direction.

The brief was to make each box unique while staying complementary to surrounding boxes. Print was limited to tonal patterns, and explore how the numbering of boxes could be included through cutouts with constrasting paper behind.

To identify each box and relevant day for the advent calendar a diamond motif was developed for each day, and included a contrast colour backing so each number could be identified.

The PRODUCTION

All made in house, we printed the Colorplan sheets on our printer, dielines were cut on a Cricut machine, hand scored, assembled and glued.

We ran test prints of the patterns on our studio printing to achieve a desired tonal print onto the coloured Colorplan stock to create a makeshift spot UV effect.

A pattern overlay was printed on each piece of card, then die lines were cut to specification for each unique box.

Boxes were hand made, the process was quiet fluid with testing constrasting colours and pattern arrangements as the boxes were made.

A rigid shoulder box was created to house all 12 internal boxes. The diamond pattern was blind embossed on the lid of the box.

The ACTIVATION

The products included in the box were from clients that we had worked with over the years. From small brands to larger businesses across Australia.

This included a range of products that we have produced from packaging, food and beverage packaging, merchandise and apparel to totes and accessories.

We’ve been able to showcase these products in a fun and engaging way with followers via our socials platforms by creating a competition for one of our followers to win the 12 days of gifts.

Tsu Lange Yor EDP and Candle

We created miniature versions of the Meatsmith cookbook and the Four Pillar Christmas Gin and created video content for the unboxing experience.
